I’m making the best traditional darkroom portraits of Vancouver available today

Me and Randers, Spring 2025

…but it wasn’t always this way

Until fairly recently, I had a long career in the design industry, building products and teams for some big deal brands.

Things got a little spicy for us all in the COVID-19 era, but it wasn’t until after that once-in-a-lifetime public health emergency was already in steep decline that I first started to struggle with my own angst about what it all means, man.

When the first wave of tech industry layoffs began in 2022, I knew the time had come to think deeply about my future, and make some tough decisions about the kinds of creative work I really wanted to make today, and leave behind for tomorrow.

I've been making this work as a hobbyist for more than a decade, and now it's my full-time business

I’m grateful and privileged to call the city of Vancouver home; it’s a place where there is an abundance of both natural and man-made beauty at every turn, and this makes for a rewarding muse.

But living here is not without its challenges, the high cost of living among the most urgent. It feels like the city is the victim of its own success, and the thoughtful design decisions that have made it so appealing, are now compounding factors in the struggle of its population.

What motivates me today is that tension between great design, high desirability, and affordability. It reminds me of the old designer’s axiom: good, fast, cheap—pick two. I’m not sure if the camera is the right tool to explore this problem with, but for now I’m happy to let it show me who this city is designed for, and by extension, who it is excluding.

Beautiful images, printed beautifully

The prints coming out of this exploration are the best I’ve ever made, and I’m excited to share them with you in my shop. Availability is somewhat limited, mostly due to the handcrafted nature of the product, and because I'm a single-person operation.

I release new collections of prints throughout the year. The next collection is scheduled to be available in autumn, 2025.

If you're looking to spend a little more time with me, you can watch my videos on YouTube, or subscribe to Bloop, my occasional newsletter. I'm grateful for every bit of your support.
